The Shangri-Las
One of the premier girl groups of the ’60s, the Shangri-Las were comprised of two sets of sisters and known for their lavish productions and teenage melodramas. Their tough-girl attitude set them apart from other girl groups like the Shirelles and the Ronettes and has influenced everyone from the New York Dolls and Blondie to Aerosmith and current indie bands like Brooklyn’s Vivian Girls. While their hits “Leader of the Pack” and “Remember (Walkin’ in the Sand)” are the most well known and frequently covered, the rest of the Shangri-Las’ recorded output – especially their old B-sides – is a treasure waiting to be discovered on vinyl.
