The Rolling Stones released 12 X 5 as their second US album in 1964. The album was made up mainly of R&B covers. However, there are three originals penned by Jagger and Richards along with two group songs under the pseudonym of “Nanker Phelge.” After several recording sessions in Chicago in 1964, the band’s UK label released a five-song EP named Five by Five. Since EPs were rare in the US, The Stones’ US distributor released the five EP tracks along with seven new ones. The album’s name represents 12 songs by 5 musicians. However, Ian Stewart also played on the album. 12 X 5 reached number 3 in America. It was originally released on the record label and was produced by Andrew Loog Oldham.
