War Heroes
The out-of-print War Heroes LP is the third studio album released after Jimi Hendrix’ death. His first two posthumous albums featured the majority of what was to be his next (double) album, First Rays of the New Rising Sun. The remaining three tracks – “Stepping Stone,” “Izabella,” and “Beginning” – are included here. “Highway Chile,” “Tax Free,” and “Midnight” feature the original Experience bassist Noel Redding, with bass being handled by either Hendrix or Billy Cox on the other tracks. Produced by Eddie Kramer and John Jansen, War Heroes preserves these treasures from the vaults without overdubbing any freshly recorded bass and drum parts. Perhaps because they were really scraping the bottom of the barrel at this point, the album contains a few studio outtakes that provide a glimpse into Hendrix’ sense of humor, like “Peter Gunn Catastrophe.” War Heroes is perfect for serious Hendrix fans on the hunt for some interesting obscurities.
