War
Leaving the Christian theme, U2 focused on their first political album rightfully called “War.” Released in 1983, much of the music spoke about the world at the time which was particularly war ravaged in those years. You can hear that in the songs “Sunday Bloody Sunday” and “New Years Day” which are still two of their most popular hits to date. With songs of both emotional and physical affects of war, the album “War” was a huge success for the band and became their first album to reach #1 in the UK and #12 in the US. Ranked #221 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of all Time, U2 has often said that they were proud of this particular album because it spoke about something that was often pushed aside in the rock-n-roll world. These international hits can still be heard on a daily basis which speaks to the longevity of the band U2.
