Lodger
Finishing up the “Berlin Trilogy” was the album “Lodger” released in 1979. Also in collaboration with Brian Eno, “Lodger” was considerably lighter and more pop sounding than the previous two albums. Although not necessarily a commercial success, for Bowie fans this was the final chapter of what seemed to be a journey in both his personal and business life. Overall it is an underrated album that has grown over time as people realize how brilliant Bowie is both as a writer and performer. The themes were based on travel which can be heard in the song “African Night Flight” and the critique of Western civilization which can be heard in “Boys Keep Swinging.” Peaking at #4 in the UK charts “Lodger” is a great overall album that grows in appreciation each year that goes by.
