Woody Herman
Woody Herman was a famous jazz clarinetist, as well as an alto and soprano saxophonist, singer and big band leader. He was extremely popular as a bandleader in the 30’s and 40’s and had many successful gigs playing at Carnegie Hall. Effectively ending the big band era by dismantling his band in 1946, Woody Herman organized a band later on and made some of his most famous albums such “The Main Event – Live” with Frank Sinatra. Listening to his music on vinyl you can clearly see why he was given a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1987 right before his death.
