Big Band and Quartet in Concert
Thelonious Monk’s Big band and Quartet in Concert showcases their fine music. It consists of 2 CDs, and you can hear the genius Thelonious Monk on piano, Steve Lacy on soprano saxophone, Phil Woods on the alto saxophone and clarinet, Charlie Rouse on tenor saxophone, and Gene Allen on the baritone saxophone, bass clarinet and clarinet. Other artists include Nick Travis on the trumpet, Thad Jones on the cornet, Eddie Bert on the trombone, Butch Warren on bass, and Frank Dunlop on drums. Recorded live at the Philharmonic Hall of the Lincoln Center during the 30th of December, 1963, this CD also contains about half an hour of music taken from their album release of 1964. This CD captures the magical music only Monk can weave, and also shows us how much music has changed.
