Pat Metheny
With nearly 40 records and 17 Grammy Awards to his name, Pat Metheny is a highly accomplished jazz guitarist and composer. A teenage guitar prodigy under the wing of jazz vibraphonist Gary Burton, he rose to prominence in the late ’70s with the Pat Metheny Group, which featured the writing duo of Metheny and pianist Lyle Mays. Though Mays is Metheny’s most frequent collaborator – their collaboration spanning over 25 years and 15 albums – Metheny has also recorded with Chick Corea, Jaco Pastorius, Jack DeJohnette, Herbie Hancock, Ornette Coleman, and Joni Mitchell, among many, many others. One of the most popular jazzmen in the ’80s, Metheny is known for stretching the boundaries of jazz. His style, which incorporates progressive jazz, post-bop, Latin jazz, and jazz fusion, is instantly recognizable and exquisite on vinyl.
