Miles: The New Miles Davis Quintet
The New Miles Davis Quintet is a studio album by jazz great Miles Davis. The album was recorded and released in 1955 for OJC records. Davis was still very young while recording this early album and the music reflects the period of Davis’ career. With Davis still finding his voice and John Coltrane and Red Garland also just as young, the album can be thought of as a starter kit in jazz music. Although the record can not be said to be among the essential Davis recordings, it still has its share of gems. The highlight track is Stablemates, a Benny Golson composition. Considering that this is a very early effort in the career of this great group, it is a pretty good session.
