Infinity
In 1972 Alice Coltrane composed some string tracks to go with her late husband John Coltrane’s unreleased recordings of 1965-1966, and compiled the album “Infinity”. Tracks 2 and 3 are the original tracks recorded in 1965 by the Classic Quartet (John Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones), whereas tracks 1 and 4 were recorded by Alice Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, Rashied Ali and Garrison along with Ray Appleton. “Infinity” was finally released by Impulse records in 1972. Alice Coltrane was criticized by everyone as she took her husband’s recordings and superimposed them on new orchestral backgrounds and re-dubbed the rhythmic parts.
