Jelly Roll Morton
Jelly Roll Morton was a ragtime pianist, composer and bandleader that some recognize as the first true composer of jazz music. He was a public persona who used a lot of colorful words to describe himself to get recognition for his work. In 1915 he is said to have written the very first jazz composition ever published called “Jelly Roll Blues.” After that he wrote dozens of popular songs such as “Wolverine Blues” and “Turtle Twist” that are now considered to be jazz classics. It is very uplifting to listen to Jelly Roll Morton on vinyl because of his upbeat and exciting music and persona that he created along with the music.
