  • Joan Baez

One of the leading interpretive folk singers of the 1960s, Joan Baez got her start performing in Boston coffeehouses. She emerged on the scene in the midst of the folk music revival as a 19-year-old with a distinct soprano that no one could forget. Initially performing traditional folk songs, she soon embraced the more socially conscious work of the ’60s, helping to popularize the work of Bob Dylan and champion political and environmental causes. Though her musical style has evolved over her 50-plus years of performing and over 30 albums, incorporating everything from an orchestra backing to country to pop, her music has remained honest.
