The Music Man
The Music Man
Meredith Willson was the writer and musician of The Music Man, which was a musical based on a con man who poses as a boys’ band leader. What she did with this musical was turn it into a true story of romance. The Music Man became an instant hit on Broadway in 1957 and won five Tony Awards for its stellar plot and musical performances. The cast album won the first Grammy Award for “Best Original Cast Album.” Today, you can still hear songs such as “Rock Island,” “Iowa Stubborn” and “Till There Was You” on vinyl which really brings you back to the first production of this great musical.
