Gypsy
Gypsy, often referred to as the greatest American musical, hit the Broadway stage in 1959. With music by Jules Syne, Gypsy was based on the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee, a famous striptease artist and her dreams to perform onstage. The musical was called a book musical because of the conventional musical theatre art form with songs that became popular standards that sound fantastic on vinyl. These songs included “Everything’s Coming up Roses” and “Let Me Entertain You.” Still in revivals today, Gypsy is one of the most amazing musicals ever created.
