The Lovin’ Spoonful
In the midst of the ’60s British Invasion, this New York folk-rock band emerged. While they were no Beatles, the Lovin’ Spoonful wrote some true classics that have stood the test of time (and placed in the Top 10 right alongside the Fab Four’s hits): “Do You Believe in Magic?” “Summer in the City,” “You Didn’t Have to Be So Nice,” and “Daydream,” among them. With roots in the Greenwich Village folk scene, the band was influenced by blues and jug bands and stood out for its eclecticism. Listening to the Lovin’ Spoonful’s feel-good tunes on vinyl is sure to bring a smile.
