Bad Brains
Ask any hardcore punk fan and they’ll tell you that Bad Brains were the originals – the definitive hardcore punk band of the early ‘80s. Not only did Bad Brains put Washington D.C. on the map as one of the first and most influential hardcore punk scenes, they themselves influenced everyone from Dave Grohl to Henry Rollins and the Beastie Boys. Combining their jazz fusion roots with punk and reggae, Bad Brains were known for their frenetic sound and intense live performances. Although the band would change lineups and experiment with funk, soul, and heavy metal in the ’90s, its 1983 album Rock for Light, produced by the Cars’ Ric Ocasek, remains a landmark hardcore punk album. Highly recommended on vinyl!
