The Cranberries
This Irish alternative rock band achieved mass success in the States in the early ’90s thanks to MTV’s love for the singles “Linger” and “Dreams” off the group’s 1993 debut album, Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?. By the time the Cranberries’ second album, No Need to Argue, was released, everybody was familiar with frontwoman Dolores O’Riordan’s powerful, lilting voice, Irish accent, and fierce pixie image, as well as the group’s guitar-pop jangle and lush, dream-pop textures. They continued to produce a string of hit singles over the next few years with “Zombie,” “Ode to My Family,” “Salvation,” “Free to Decide,” and “When You’re Gone” – each with a compelling music video to accompany it. Listening to the Cranberries on vinyl is just as gripping, and after a long hiatus the band is back with its first album in 11 years, Roses.
