Social Distortion
There are a few things that set Social Distortion apart from other SoCal hardcore punk bands of the era: its rockabilly influence as well as its alternative rock appeal. Fronted by the Johnny Cash-channeling Mike Ness, Social D has been active since 1978. Mainstream success came in 1990 with the band’s eponymous third album featuring alt-rock radio staples like “Ball and Chain” and “Story of My Life” as well as a cover of Cash’s “Ring of Fire.” Now with seven studio albums and a long trail of influence, Social Distortion is still rocking and keeping the vinyl tradition alive.
