    One of the most popular American vocalists of the 1960s, Andy Williams rivaled Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley when it came to gold album sales. He began his career in the Williams Brothers Quartet and with them appeared on Bing Crosby’s 1944 hit “Swinging on a Star.” Launching his solo career in 1952, Williams enjoyed a number of hits throughout the decade and into the next including “Canadian Sunset,” “Butterfly,” and “Can’t Get Used to Losing You.” His performance of “Moon River” at the 1962 Oscar Awards became somewhat of a theme song for Williams, as did the Christmas tune “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” which he popularized on his 1963 Christmas album. Williams also hosted his own television variety show from 1962 to ’71.
