Diana Krall
Owing a debt to Nat King Cole and able to tackle bossa novas like the best of them, Canadian singer/pianist Diana Krall was the top-selling female jazz artist of the ’90s and ’00s. Her post-bop playing style and contralto vocals were impossible to ignore on 1999’s When I Look in Your Eyes, an international hit that earned Krall a Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Performance. This was followed by 2001’s chart-topping, Claus Ogerman-arranged The Look of Love, which not only went quintuple platinum in Canada but took home three Junos. With her husband, Elvis Costello, Krall has also recorded a number of her own compositions, which are featured on the 2004 album The Girl in the Other Room. Enjoying great crossover success throughout her career—even performing in Lilith Fair—Krall is captivating as ever on vinyl.
