Del The Funky Homosapien
The cousin of West Coast gangsta rapper Ice Cube, Del the Funky Homosapien got his start in Ice Cube’s backing band, Da Lench Mob. Yet, Del (born Teren Delvon Jones in Oakland, CA) carved out a significantly different musical style for himself over the course of the ’90s, going from P-funk sampling major label MC to humorous and innovative underground hip-hop artist singing about his love for video games and the importance of good hygiene. He teamed up with Oakland’s Hieroglyphics crew in the mid-’90s, embracing a freestyle-based style of hip-hop, and blasted himself into the future with his groundbreaking year 2000 side project Deltron 3030. Del is also well known for his appearance on the hit single “Clint Eastwood” from Damon Albarn’s side project Gorillaz.
