In the Wind
Peter, Paul and Mary’s third album, In the Wind, is one of their most well loved. Released in October 1963 during the height of the folk revival and just months before the Beatles-led British Invasion, it not only topped the Billboard charts it pulled the folk trio’s previous two albums into the Top 10 with it. In the Wind features three Bob Dylan covers: “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right,” and “Quit Your Low Down Ways.” The trio had performed “Blowin’ in the Wind” at the 1963 March on Washington where Martin Luther King, Jr. made his I Have a Dream speech, and it became a huge it, earning the trio three Grammy Awards and significantly boosting the profile of the then little known Dylan. In the Wind also includes standards like “Tell It on the Mountain,” the ballad of “Stewball,” and “Very Last Day,” one of the trio’s best originals.
