Moving
Moving is Peter, Paul and Mary’s second album, released in 1963. As on their debut, PP&M continue the folk process by offering their own beautifully harmonized interpretations of folk classics, while simultaneously popularizing folk music. Moving represents two very different sides of the folk spectrum – from the political Woodie Guthrie cover “This Land Is Your Land” to the gentle lullaby of “Puff, the Magic Dragon.” The latter became a surprise hit single and even entered the Top 10 of the R&B charts. Today, “Puff, the Magic Dragon” remains one of the trio’s most defining songs as well as a children’s classic. Other album highlights include the haunting “Pretty Mary,” the more traditional “A ‘Soalin’,” and singles “Big Boat” and “Settle Down (Goin’ Down That Highway).”
