Art Blakey
Art Blakey, a jazz drummer and bandleader, was one of the inventors of the modern bebop style of drumming. Known as a powerful musician, his interpretation of funky hard bop jazz still remains in mainstream jazz today. He led his band the Jazz Messengers for over 30 years and is considered a legacy in the jazz world. As a leader, he recorded and has been on almost 140 albums which can now be heard on vinyl. With music such as “A Night at Birdland” easily got him inducted into the Jazz Hall of Fame in 1982 and continues to be an inspiration for many of the upcoming jazz performers.
