Lester Young
Lester Young who studied under the tutelage of Count Basie himself was a prominent jazz tenor as well as a saxophonist and clarinetist. As one of the most influential players on the saxophone he had a sophisticated way of harmonizing that drew people in. Known as a jazz legend, he brought a lot of fame and notoriety to the hipster ethos type of jazz music. It was his post World War II recordings that became highly popular such as “Lester Leaps In” which was recorded at the 1949 JATP concert at Carnegie Hall. Listening to Lester Young on vinyl is almost like being at one of his performance it is that good.
