Supernatural
It is not every day that a band makes a comeback like this. Surprising everyone, Santana’s Supernatural sold over 27 million copies worldwide and won nine Grammys including Record and Album of the Year. This comes a record-breaking 28 years after Santana’s last number-one album, 1971’s Santana III. Full of fresh new collaborations with A-list stars, it produced the hit single “Smooth” featuring Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20. A throwback to early-’70s salsa-fusion Santana, “Smooth” topped the charts for months. The second single was the pop/hip-hop “Maria Maria,” which features Wyclef Jean and the Product G&B. “Put Your Lights On” (featuring Everlast) and “Do You Like the Way” (featuring Lauryn Hill and Cee-Lo) were also big hits. Carlos Santana was at the top of his game since Woodstock, and this double LP captures it all. A fantastic mix of Latin-jazz, Afro-Cuban rhythms, passionate instrumentals, and pop hits, Santana once again brings Latin rock into the mainstream.
