Miles of Aisles
A double live album recorded during her Court and Spark tour, Miles of Aisles features breathtaking revitalizations of Joni Mitchell’s classics. It also includes the as-of-yet unheard “Jericho” (which pops up again in a different form on Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter) and “Love or Money.” Backed by the L.A. Express, old favorites are given fresh new arrangements and “Woodstock,” “You Turn Me On, I’m a Radio,” and “Big Yellow Taxi” take on a life of their own. In fact, the live single of “Big Yellow Taxi” ended up charting higher than its studio counterpart. Singing over a loud band, Mitchell showcases her vocal abilities like never before on this album. She also preserves the intimacy of songs like “A Case of You,” as Sides Two and Three are mainly acoustic. Unlike the CD version, the vinyl LP includes stage banter that captures Mitchell’s warm relationship with her audience, giving listeners a rare glimpse into this artist’s character.
