The King and I
The King and I, a musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein, is based on the book Anna and the King of Siam. The King and I opened on Broadway in 1951 and won the Tony Award for Best Musical, among a host of other awards. Spawning numerous revivals as well as a 1956 movie of the same name, The King and I was best known for its songs “I Whistle a Happy Tune” and “Hello, Young Lovers” as well as several others. The musical is still popular today with several performing groups as well as high schools, but it sounds great on vinyl as well.
