The Jam
The Jam was a British punk/New Wave band fronted by singer-songwriter and guitarist Paul Weller that was active between 1977 and 1982. The trio was part of the first wave of British punk bands alongside the Sex Pistols, the Clash, and the Buzzcocks. But as their contemporaries were rebelling against the pop aesthetic of ’60s Brit-rock bands, the Jam embraced it along with ’60s Northern Soul and R&B. Their three-minute, hook-driven guitar pop not only put them at the forefront of the mod revival, it put them at the top of the charts. The band enjoyed 18 consecutive Top-40 singles in the UK as well as four number-one hits. Though the Jam never really caught on in the U.S., its influence is apparent in everyone from the Smiths to Blur and Oasis. Put on a snappy suit and listen to this band on vinyl!
