  • The Cramps

Coining the term “psychobilly” and paving the way for that entire music scene, the Cramps were in a category all their own. Part of New York City’s CBGB punk rock movement of the late-’70s, they were one of the first garage punk bands. Yet, their style was as influenced by early rockabilly, ’60s surf and garage, and the NYC post-glam scene as it was by retro monster movies. At the band’s core was the husband and wife duo of lead singer Lux Interior and lead guitarist Poison Ivy. While the rest of the lineup rotated frequently, the Cramps had a distinct dual guitar and no bass set-up until 1986’s A Date With Elvis. Actively releasing albums up until 2002, the Cramps disbanded after Lux Interior’s untimely death in 2009. If you have the chance to pick up any of this band’s albums on vinyl, don’t hesitate!
