This Detroit-area rock band was punk before punk was punk. Formed in Lincoln Park, Michigan, in late 1964, the Motor City Five made loud, political rock and roll in the midst of the peace and love era. Despite the inevitable corporate censorship and label troubles, this incendiary band proved hugely influential on generations to come. Their 1969 debut, Kick out the Jams, captures the anarchy of their live show; its leaner, Jon Landau-produced 1970 follow-up, Back in the U.S.A., anticipates the emergence of both the punk and power-pop movements; and their final album, 1971’s High Time, remains a classic. Detroit Rock City’s most energetic are incredible on vinyl!
