Alkaline Trio
Alkaline Trio is a punk band that has been active since 1996. Featuring singer-guitarist Matt Skiba, bassist Dan Andriano, and drummer Derek Grant, the group has deep ties to the Chicago punk-hardcore scene from which it hails. Theirs is a more brooding, darkly dramatic style of pop-punk that is both angsty and melodic, and well captured in the title of their 2007 hit album, Agony & Irony. Whether listening to their 2002 split EP with Hot Water Music or most recent 2011 album, Damnesia, which re-invisions old favorites in an intimate “unplugged” setting, Alkaline Trio is as cathartic as ever on vinyl.
