Joe Jackson
Filing Joe Jackson under “New Wave” isn’t exactly accurate; this genre-straddling artist is a musical chameleon! Often compared to Elvis Costello and Graham Parker, he did help bring the New Wave sound to the States with his 1979 debut album, Look Sharp!, and its single “Is She Really Going Out with Him?” Then in 1981, Jackson released a collection of swing and jump-blues classics with Jumpin’ Jive. 1982’s Night and Day followed, a sophisticated pop album that paid tribute to George Gershwin and Cole Porter and produced the hit “Steppin’ Out.” Covering everything from reggae/ska to R&B, jazz, and contemporary classical over the course of his career, Jackson is proudly eclectic and pretty fantastic on vinyl.
