Ozzy Osbourne
As the lead vocalist of English heavy metal band Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne earned the title “Godfather of Heavy Metal” and the “Prince of Darkness.” Then, as a solo artist, he continued to be profoundly influential on the genre. Choosing the late Randy Rhoads as the guitarist in his backing band, Ozzy helped incorporate virtuosity into heavy metal. In the mid-’90s, after his so-called retirement, he was still going strong releasing multi-platinum albums and creating Ozzfest to help raise the profile of other metal bands. In the last decade, Ozzy starred in one of MTV’s most successful programs to date, The Osbournes, and continues to release solo albums.
