Black Sabbath is likely the world’s first heavy metal band. Their music was heavy, dark, and eerie, thanks to the distinctive vocal work of Ozzy Osbourne. Black Sabbath released several legendary albums in the 1970’s, fired Ozzy in 1979, then went on to recruit several different musicians throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s, until in 1997 Black Sabbath staged a reunion tour with Ozzy. During these 40 (!) years, Black Sabbath has continued to be one of the most influential bands in rock history, and has enjoyed a massive fanbase, and major commercial success.
