    The English hard rock band UFO was instrumental in the transition from early hard rock to heavy metal. Formed by singer Phil Mogg, guitarist Mick Bolton, bassist Pete Way, and drummer Andy Parker in 1969, UFO’s early sound bore a space-rock influence. After recruiting the Scorpions’ Michael Schenker on guitar in 1973, UFO debuted a harder-edged guitar sound that would win them international success. Where their contemporaries Black Sabbath were all about darkness and the occult, UFO were all about rocking. If you’re craving great ’70s English hard rock, pick up some UFO vinyl.
