Paul McCartney
The Beatles will always be Sir Paul McCartney’s great legacy, but the songwriter/musician’s post-Beatles career isn’t too shabby either. During the first 12 years of his solo career, McCartney had nine number-one singles and seven number-one albums in America. With his band Wings (featuring his wife Linda), he released the celebrated Band on the Run album in 1973. In the ’80s he dappled in film scores, and in the ’90s he pursued his longtime interest in electronic music. Listed by Guinness World Records as the most successful musician and composer in popular music, McCartney wrote the book on songwriting and his knack for pop melodies has been both admired and coveted for decades. Listening to anything Paul McCartney touches on vinyl is highly recommended.
