TV on the Radio
Brooklyn’s TV on the Radio caught the attention of the nation in the early ’00s with their striking mix of atmospheric post-punk, free jazz, funk, and soul. Starting out as a duo featuring vocalist Tunde Adebimpe and producer/multi-instrumentalist Dave Sitek, the genre-bending band has grown to include guitarist Kyp Malone, drummer Jaleel Bunton, and bassist Gerard Smith. Since their groundbreaking 2003 EP Young Liars, TV on the Radio have released four essential albums: Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes (2004), Return to Cookie Mountain (2006), Dear Science (2008), and Nine Types of Light (2011). TV on the Radio is immaculate on vinyl. Their low-end synths, bursting horns, and Adebimpe’s elliptical vocals seep into your pores, and when the electronics drop out on the barbershop-style a cappella songs, it’s absolutely breathtaking.
