    • The Jesus and Mary Chain

    The Jesus and Mary Chain are one of the most important alternative rock bands to date. Formed in Scotland in 1983 by brothers Jim and William Reid, the JAMC were influenced as much by the Velvet Underground and the Stooges as Phil Spector and the Shangri-Las. Their use of Beach Boys-style melodies wrapped in distortion, feedback, and echo was immensely influential to the shoegaze movement. Their 1985 debut Psychocandy is considered a landmark album, and its opening track “Just Like Honey” is the JAMC’s biggest hit to date. Of all the bands that sound better on vinyl, the Jesus and Mary Chain definitely take the cake.
