Sigur Ros
Sigur Ros is an Icelandic group whose ethereal, post-rock soundscapes resemble the icy beauty of their home country. The band gained critical acclaim with its 1999 sophomore album, Agaetis Byrjun, and has been hypnotizing audiences worldwide ever since. Employing classical elements as well as the immaculate falsetto vocals and bowed guitar of frontman Jonsi Birgisson–and in the case of the band’s 2002 album ( ), a constructed non-lexical language called Vonlenska that conveys emotions without actual words–the band’s majestic, cinematic music has colored films ranging from Cameron Crowe’s Vanilla Sky to Wes Anderson’s The Life Aquatic. It’s safe to say that Sigur Ros’ music is among the most stunning things you will ever hear on vinyl.
