A Duluth, Minnesota band formed in 1993, Low made a distinct impact on the music world with its “slowcore” style of alternative rock. As grunge was sweeping the airwaves, Low was reacting to all the loud aggression by turning its amps down instead of up, playing its shows at just above a whisper. Like other slowcore bands, Low’s music is characterized by slow tempos (perhaps the slowest of the them all) and a minimalist aesthetic. What got Low heard then and still makes listeners come in closer now are the chilling vocal harmonies of guitarist Alan Sparhawk and his wife, drummer Mimi Parker. Hauntingly beautiful, Low sounds incredible on vinyl.
