Cocteau Twins
During the course of their career, from 1979-1997, Scotland alternative-rock trio the Cocteau Twins helped define the post-punk sound of the ‘80s and pioneer what would come to be known as dream pop. Influenced by Kate Bush, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Joy Division, the Twins elevated that dark goth aesthetic into the stratosphere thanks to singer Elizabeth Fraser’s ethereal voice and guitarist Robin Guthrie’s many effects. While their landmark 1990 album Heaven or Las Vegas is their most famous and obvious pick, every entry in their catalog is absolutely heavenly on vinyl.
