Arctic Monkeys
Largely by accident, English indie rockers Arctic Monkeys revealed the immense power of the internet as a promotional and marketing tool for indie bands, and ultimately a way to circumvent the traditional major label route. On account of a few demos that had circulated on the Web, the Monkeys earned a substantial fanbase before they even had an album out. When their debut Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not was released in 2006, it broke Oasis’ record to become the fastest-selling debut album in British music history. Despite their legacy as poster children of the digital age, Arctic Monkeys sound great on vinyl.
