Styx
At the close of the ‘70s, Styx was America’s most popular rock band. The Chicagoans had released a string of multi-platinum albums throughout the decade – 1977’s The Grand Illusion, 1978’s Pieces of Eight, and 1979’s Cornerstone – that saw them expand their prog-rock roots to incorporate hard-rock guitar and soaring power ballads, and achieve arena-rock status. Then with the dawn of the ‘80s, they decided to release a concept album, 1981’s Paradise Theater. This became the biggest hit of their career. Now a classic-rock radio staple, Styx is best known for songs like “Come Sail Away” and “Mr. Roboto,” but the best way to experience this band is on vinyl where you can enjoy all of their epic songs.
