Bootsy Collins
Born William Earl, the legendary bassist Bootsy Collins is a genuine funk superstar. He played on some of funk’s most quintessential recordings as part of James Brown’s backing band the J.B.’s, George Clinton’s Parliament-Funkadelic, and with his own Bootsy’s Rubber Band. His “rubbery” playing style helped define the funk genre and is as distinctive as the star-shaped bass, glasses, and knee-high platform boots of his flashy stage persona “Bootzilla.” A huge Hendrix fan, it was Bootsy’s aim to play bass like Hendrix played guitar, and his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-worthy grooves are even juicier on vinyl.
