  • Fountains of Wayne

First hitting the scene in 1996, power-pop duo Fountains of Wayne had something most ’90s bands lacked: straightforward, likeable pop songs. In fact, founding member Adam Schlesinger’s pop craftsmanship was so strong that he became a producer and ghostwriter for other artists and even earned an Oscar nomination for penning the title song to the 1996 Tom Hanks film That Thing You Do. But with co-writer/singer Chris Collingwood and the expanded lineup of guitarist Jody Porter and drummer Brian Young, Schlesinger crafted some of the best feel-good anthems around. The band’s greatest success came in 2003 with the album Welcome Interstate Managers and its Cars-inspired single “Stacy’s Mom.” Listening to their big guitar pop and witty character studies on vinyl is pure fun.
