Thelonious Monk
One of Jazz’s great piano innovators, Thelonious Monk is often credited for founding the bebop movement. Monk is also one of jazz’s great composers. His music takes an unorthodox approach to the piano, with a heavily percussive attack, and abrupt pauses. Many of Monk’s tunes have gone down in history as standards, including “Straight, No Chaser”, “Well You Needn’t”, and “Round Midnight”. You can’t get any closer to Thelonious Monk than by listening to his songs on vinyl.
