Dizzy Gillespie
Dizzy Gillespie, a jazz trumpeter, bandleader, composer and singer, was a major contributor to bebop along with Charlie Parker. Together they revolutionized modern jazz and made it so much of their own. He helped to found Afro-Cuban jazz with compositions such as “Manteca” and “Tin Tin Deo” and was a trumpet master. As a mentor to young musicians, Dizzy Gillespie took his place in jazz very seriously. Whether you listen to his 1960 vinyl “Bird & Diz” or his 1992 “Groovin’ High” you can’t help but love this gifted performer.
