Coleman Hawkins
Nicknamed “Hawk,” Coleman Hawkins was a prominent and influential jazz tenor saxophonist. He is thought by most to be the first important jazz player to use the jazz horn which no one had ever done. During the swing and big band era, Coleman Hawkins was huge. He then went on to help develop bebop music in the 1940’s. His “Picasso” and “The Hawk Flies High” albums are considered to be some of the greatest in all of jazz. When you listen to them on vinyl you can’t help but appreciate his inventive singing and fabulous saxophone playing.
