LCD Soundsystem
Thanks to their hometown ode “New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down,” LCD Soundsystem will always be linked to the Big Apple. They will also be remembered as one of the most significant electronica bands of the ’00s. Formed in New York by DFA Records co-founder James Murphy – a vinyl record lover – LCD Soundsystem’s sophomore album, Sound of Silver, is widely regarded as one of the best albums of 2007, and their combination of acid house, post-punk, garage rock, and psychedelic pop helped define the decade’s genre-bending indie zeitgeist. Though the band announced its retirement in early 2011, LCD Soundsystem has left an enduring mark on the post-punk dance music world with hits like “Drunk Girls,” “All My Friends,” and the eight-minute satire of cool, “Losing My Edge.”
